Broncos Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

Mike Shanahan and his coaching staff are pushing the right buttons for the Denver Broncos this season.

A few weeks ago, the Broncos were in a downward spiral, having lost four of five with injuries piling up and many problems on both sides of the ball. After a couple of tough road wins, the Broncos are back in control of the AFC West as they head into a divisional battle against Oakland on Sunday.

The Broncos have used a lot of young players and had to shuttle in many backups because of injuries, but the coaching staff has gotten them all ready to contribute.

“You’ve got to have good players and good coaches to get those players ready to go,” receiver Brandon Stokley said.

The Broncos have had seven rookies start this season and many other key players are…

Spencer “Leatherhead” Larsen didn’t realize he was going to be making history or even creating such a buzz by starting for the Denver Broncos at middle linebacker and fullback last weekend. “It was cool. I was real excited about it. I didn’t think it was going to be this big of a deal, though,” Larsen said, still aglow from his two-way duty in Denver’s 24-20 win at Atlanta on Sunday.

The lawyer for three New Orleans Saints players facing suspension said Wednesday the NFL’s independent drug administrator acknowledged he did not inform NFL players that the supplement StarCaps contained a banned diuretic. Broncos Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

The Broncos‘ defense isn’t going to be confused with the Ravens‘ or the Steelers‘, but it is making progress.

The Broncos were pleased with the job they did against Atlanta, holding the powerful Falcons rushing game to 3.3 yards per attempt and allowing only 20 points in a 24-20 win Sunday.

Denver has worked at improving the run defense after a horrible start, and it paid off Sunday.

“To play the rushing defense we played against an excellent running offensive football team, I was very pleased,” coach Mike Shanahan said.

The Broncos brought an eighth man in the box on most plays to contain Michael Turner. The powerful running back had a pair of touchdowns but managed just 81 yards on 25 carries, ending up with a rather quiet day.
